    1. Given the unforeseen extension of the astronauts' mission, how should mission planners re-evaluate life support systems and resource management for potential future long-term space travel?

    2. Gene Roddenberry geared humanity towards this exact type of current situation. So glad international hostilities roid rage on rather than true international cooperation for the betterment of all mankind on this dirtball somewhere within a galaxy lost amongst the millions of other stellar objects smattered across an otherwise void.

It's all fun and games until the who smelt it dealt it game begins in one of the many pods the ISS. Six whole months to play around with older experiments? Gonna need Moar Cowbell!

    3. Mr. DeGrasse Tyson I want to thank you for bringing that movie to my attention; I wasn't aware it existed and with a quick search of the title I found it on TUBI. I am currently watching it while eating my labor day brunch. It's a very good movie for being made in 1969 and quite exciting. They're about to launch the rescue craft in the eye of the hurricane now – gotta go and thanks again!

    4. They are not stranded. How do you think all the other astronauts come and go for decades?
The ONLY thing that leaves them up there is NASAs and Boeings PRIDE!
      Drama Queens***

    5. NASA is a mess if they are only dealing with Boeing and fascist twit Elon Musk. Why does the US government do business with these failures? Why would anyone want to join the space program? Ugh.

    6. The problem here is that the Boeing Execs, with their checkered past, protested when NASA decided to have SpaceX return the astronauts instead of the Starliner. Astronaut Barry Butch then reported hearing strange noises coming out of that spacecraft. NASA made the right decision, putting the safety of the astronauts over Boeing's concern for the bottom line. Personally, it is time to terminate its contract.

    7. I think Neil's lost a little credibility here. I understand that the media can and will overstate and sensationalize for more clicks, viewership and $$$… but downplaying this as a "nothing to see here", non-event is a severe misreading of current events.

The 'correct' perspective is one of 'judgment'… not against the astronauts… but against Boeing.

The astronauts deserve incalculable praise for their professionalism and perseverance in the face of potentially life threatening circumstances that have been not been made any better by Boeing.

In fact, Boeing has made these circumstances worse.

The fact the Boeing planes have been falling out of the skies due to 'technology advancements' is appalling and frightening… to the point where airlines now show the manufacturer and model of the plane you might be flying in so you can select a different option if you have concerns over the manufacturer of the plane you'll be traveling in.

      That's bad enough… right?

It's equally awful that even one of the astronauts, who regularly is risking some serious danger just by being in a massive tube structure that orbits this planet was concerned enough to say, "if it's Boeing, I ain't going."

      That's all scary enough!!

But the fact that Boeing is aggressively retaliating against whistle-blowers should be the 'wake-up-call' to Neil that we aren't living in the reality that was 1969 NASA/U.S.A.F./Lockheed/Boeing/etc…

That was a different era when extreme profit/growth wasn't the only business model.

If Apollo was happening today, I'd imagine that anti-regulatory private industry would cut more corners.. make astronauts take even more risks, put more lives in extreme danger…

      Why?

Because the profit motivation has corrupted EVERYTHING!! Possibly even Neil.

I understand that an organization needs to turn a buck and maintain solvency. I also understand that cutting corners, risking people's lives, and savagely going after whistle-blowers doesn't do a whole lot for the credibility of an organization.

Of course today we are in an age when many less-than-credible organization not only survive.. they thrive!!

But not all of them are involved in aerospace… not all of them place the lives of their customers at such risk.. just for profit… and not all of them leave astronauts stranded in space.

    8. Sorry Neil, but let’s stop right there – @ 4:37 mark – this was not the first test by far. Yes, it was the first flight with humans aboard but hardly the first test. I sense you are about to defend NASA and boeing and I will not endure hearing you do that: not in this case. If your knowledge and subsequent posting of this episode is only derived from the main stream media, then you happen to be sadly ill informed. They sorely want to convince you it’s an Apollo 13 situation when in fact it’s a Challenger/Columbia one. NASA and boeing sent those humans up in an unworthy craft consciously and with malice and forethought knowing full well it could never complete its mission. And that mission of course was ensuring the safety of the Astronauts.

You and your channel have show a propensity to passive aggressively disparage Elon and SpaceX, but I can’t hear you do it out right. I will hope my premonitions are incorrect, however, I will forever be in a state of ambivalence because I’m not carrying on with this the video.

    9. Larry Burkett's book on "Giving and Tithing" drew me closer to God and helped my spirituality. 2021 was a year I literally lived it. I cashed in my life savings and gave it all away. My total giving amounted to 30,000 dollars. Everyone thought I was delusional. Today, 1 receive 75,000 dollars every two months. I have a property in Calabasas, CA, and travel a lot. God has promoted me more than once and opened doors for me to live beyond my dreams.
God kept to his promises to and for me

    10. Things went bad for Boeing when they started all the DEI crap. They hired based on filling race and gender quotas instead of hiring people who are actually qualified to do the job.

    11. Boeing received twice the funding of SpaceX. They have accomplished a fraction of what SpaceX has. What are you? A Boeing apologist. Boeing is struggling to build safe aircraft and rockets. This is not new technology.

    12. I was seriously shaking my head, because of that headline with no following information at first, how? How are they stranded? Where are they stranded? Why are they stranded? When will they get back? Then when I realized it was IN the space station, I was thinking, ok? How many supplies do they have and how is their oxygen and water? Who else is up there and how many other flights are going to the station? Yeah, Neil, the press. Lower case press. Sigh. The thing that I worried about was, how are they doing mentally, is this a scenario they are prepared for? Well, I thought, yes. They are prepared. This is space. You have to be prepared for everything. So. Is it truly a tragedy? I admit, I'd be more than a little unsettled myself but… They are safe. With a damn good story and a place in history of being The Astronaut's who were Stuck in Space.

    13. Ridiculous. They aren’t stranded. They aren’t even alone. They just have to wait for Spacex to retrieve the OTHER astronauts up there with them and hitch a ride. The sensational fictitious headlines are a perfect example of how media lies for ratings. They have food and are getting enough supplies delivered to last them years if need be. Even Tyson himself is capitalizing on these bait click headlines

    14. Thank you for this insight Neil. WTH! The media has us believing Sunita is up there with only one other Astronaut and is wasting away due to being up in space too long. Why are they making such a big deal about this?

    15. Only one fascist stands in the way of saving these two brave souls, and the self anointed grid their teeth at the thought of him coming through, desperately clinging on to anything Thierry Breton can through at him.

    16. There should always be at least one Soyuz capsule or whatever they use to come home and also at least one fully loaded supply of food, water, oxygen, etc, in a separate capsule/vessel (excuse my ignorance of the terminology), with a completely independent launch vehicle at all times. Then have both the return vehicle and the supply capsule always on reserve and never used so that there is always an emergency or backup way to come home or at the very least, a way to have supplies ready to go on a moment’s notice, to sustain the astronauts in the event of being stuck up there longer than anticipated.
